Taking after the recall of the Yamaha YZF R1M to settle an issue with the rear electronic suspension, Yamaha has announced yet one more recall. This time however, the issue is a defective gearbox so all Yamaha YZF R1 and Yamaha YZF R1M bikes are being recalled.
Yamaha says that because of a shortage in component stability, there is high risk of the first and second gears seizing under aggressive track use. They have accepted that because of the same component, there is a chance of the 3rd and 4th gears distorting under high push.
The company has earlier started contacting all customers who have purchased the new Yamaha YZF R1. The customers will need to bring their bikes in to do a free gearbox replacement for them.
The main issue is that replacement of the gearbox is not a minor job. The bike will must be dismantled and the motor engine totally opened up to access the gearbox. The bike owners can think their bikes will be out of activity for a couple of days in any event.
If you are one of the first few bike owners of the new Yamaha YZF R1 or Yamaha YZF R1M, than you get in touch with Yamaha to figure out your bike fixed as well.
